Title: Earth's greatest rivers
Post by: Matt on January 06, 2019, 09:22:04 PM
Has everyone been watching the BBC series 'Earth's greatest rivers'? Some great fishy footage on there!

I think I saw a red eye tetra in the first episode on the Amazon... does anyone else spot anything?

I love documentaries like this that do a bit of nature and a bit of the human side of the story too :) Human Planet was the best one...

I plan to watch that, so will look out for what species I can identify.

I was watching a documentary last night while dual-tasking something else - it involved animals living in cities, including huge lizards in sewers in Bangkok, pigeons whose droppings are used for tanning leather in Fez in Morocco, black bears raiding houses and cars in Calgary, penguins in Cape Town. Fascinating!

My cousin lives in California and a couple of years ago sent photos of black bears in his garden!

I've seen both the penguins in Cape Town and the leather tanning (v. smelly!! - the sprig of mint we were given to breath through didn't touch it!) in Morocco. Both are amazing sights!

I recognised the exact places I'm the program which was amazing... they have a really nice penguin  rescue centre down the road from one of the filming locations in Cape Town. They do a educational trip thing which was really great and totally suitable for all ages which was great.

Didn't want to start a new thread just for this, but if anyone has Netflix, that is a but on Betta fish in the series One Planet with David Attenborough.

Ah, would have liked to see that one on the Amazon. I guess it might be available on BBC iPlayer?

@jaypeecee looks like you just missed it as it was last on on the 9th Jan and is no longer on iplayer. The Nile and Mississippi episodes are still on iplayer though from their reruns shortly after (they are episodes 2 and 3 in the series).

Hi @Matt

Just my luck! I hardly watch any TV so I probably miss lots of good stuff.
