This thread is a place for our collective expeience of treating different conditions to be brought together. Our aim is that you can use this information to guide your choice of medication. It also links to historical threads where our experiences are documented in more detail.*

For whitespot:
  • King British Original Formula WS3 - worked for Sue (does not kill amano shrimps when used at the half dose required by loaches)
  • Waterlife Protozin - worked for Sue
  • eSHa Exit - well reviewed, no TF member review, may stain silicone
  • Interpet Anti White Spot Plus - no TF member review
  • NTLabs Anti-White Spot & Fungus - no TF member review
  • AquaCare Anti-Fungus & White Spot - no TF member review, water will be temporarily coloured green during treatment and that it will stain skin and clothing

General infections, finrot:
  • Interpet Anti Internal Bacteria Plus - worked for fcmf (coldwater tank)
  • eSHa 2000 - worked for Sue
  • Waterlife Myxazin - worked for Sue

Internal parasites such as camallanus worm:
  • Kusuri Wormer Plus - not recommended by Sue (this medicine is designed for various parasites affecting discus and didn't seem to be effective for camallanus worms in non-discus fish)
  • Sera Nematol (http://www.fishkeeping.co.uk/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=37846&forum=3) - worked for Sue
  • eHSa-ndx - contains the active ingredient levamisole which is reportedly the best ingredient for camallanus worms, worked for Dominika
  • Sterazin - recommended by Humpalong and used extentsively on imported Guppies. Contains a small amount of antibacterial med to prevent secondary infections

*Anabatids such as gouramis and bettas have a labyrinth organ that allows the fish to absorb oxygen directly from air. Certain medicines contain substances which coat the surfaces of the labyrinth organ, and this prevents the fish from absorbing oxygen. The most commonly used of these aromatic substances is melaleuca (tea tree) oil, and these medicines should not be used in a tank containing bettas or gouramis. Medicines ending in -'fix' tend to be the ones to avoid.

*Treatments and opinions listed are the direct experience of forum users with certain types of fish and conditions. We are of course, NOT veterinarians/fish doctors etc - You are always advised to read the labels and consult with the vendor where possible. Use of the opinions supplied are done so at your own risk.

eSHa-ndx worked for me when I had a camallanus outbreak. More details in this thread: https://forums.thinkfish.co.uk/fish-medicines/camallanus-outbreak/msg20445/#msg20445

Hi Folks,

I am relatively new to this forum and I have just discovered this thread. What a valuable resource! I love the fact that it includes first-hand experience of real users in real setups. What a pleasant change from all the marketing sales-speak! I shall make good use of this.
