Title: Which are these 2 species
Post by: radhx on April 28, 2014, 05:46:47 PM
Hi,

Which are these to species and are they compatible in a community tank?
Pics attached.

I have a 30 gallon tank with 2 large Angelfish, 2 Flame Tetras, and 3 small Goldfish.

Thanks & Regards.

To me they look like cichlids from lake Malawi. If they are, they are not suitable for a community tank as they require very hard, very alkaline water which won't suit the other fish. Malawi cichlids don't make good community fish.

The two in the first pic look like female kenyi (Metriaclima lombardoi/ Maylandia lombardoi, it seems to have changed name). The second might be one of the Julidochromis species.

As a side issue, goldfish shouldn't be kept with tropical fish as they can't cope with the higher temperatures long term.

Thanks for the info, Sue.

Will shift the Goldfish to a 20 Gallon tank which I'm planning to get.

Thanks & Regards.
