Title: Strange patch on male bolivian ram
Post by: Laura on July 25, 2013, 09:17:26 PM
Hiya all,

I used to be a member on here ages ago but when it shut down for renewing i just kind of forgot to come back! But i now have a problem with one of my fish and im hoping you can give me some advice.

Probably about a month ago one of my male rams developed a sore looking patch just behind the fin on the side of his body. It kind of looked like a sore or such like so i removed him to a hospital tank and give him myxazin for 5 days as per instructions. The patch cleared up so i put him back in with everyone else. But around 4 days later i noticed that the patch had come back again. It looks rough and swollen, sometimes there is a bloody bit in it sometimes not. Sometimes it looks fluffy sometimes now. So again i put him in the hospital tank (this time with his girlfriend as i thought it would lessen the stress) and treated for another 5 days. Sometimes the patch looks nearly gone but then the next day it has flared up again. I have tried to take a photo of it but not sure how much you can see.

Any thoughts about what i can do next would be gratefully received.

THanks

Laura

That does look a bit nasty.

If we were American I'd suggest trying an antibiotic, but we can't get them here without a vet's prescription. You could try another course of myxazin, but continue for longer than it says, or possibly try eSHa 2000 if you can get it - again for longer than it says. Other than that, I don't really know what to suggest I'm afraid.
