Red eye tetras with a disease

I first noticed these fish had something wrong the day after I got them home so I can only presume they already were diseased when I got the tank. This only seems to have affected the two red eyes so far. At first I thought they were injured as one had a chunk gone above its eye and the other had the end of its nose missing. Unfortunately the one with the chunk above its eye seemed to deteriorate and it spread from the eye to its top lip and was working its way around its eye which was starting to bulge.  They have both been in quarantine with anti bacterial meds since I realised it's not just and injury . The one with the nose missing looks to possibly be healing up but the other was too bad and breathing was very rapid so I euthanised. Any ideas what exactly it could be?

About 3 inches. It definitely was getting worse as days went by.

the cause of the problem is most likely about 3 inches long with a red tail.
it may very well have got along with its tank mates when first introduced but is now becoming aggressive as it matures.
 :isay: good luck.

But what would explain them getting progressively worse? It could either I guess have started off as a bite which then got bacteria in which ate away at the wound or it is something worse and is a disease . I think I will get rid of the shark tomorrow . A local shop has said they will 'rehome ' it. I think they meant to say 'flog it'  ::)

i was naive enough to put a female black paradise fish in with some platys. after a few days it started to assert its territory and become a little aggressive to the platys.
as soon as i notice repeatedly chasing one of its tank mates from one end of the tank to the other i returned the black paradise fish to the lfs.
one of the platys sustained a small bite, this then developed a slight fungal infection which was followed by ich or white spot which spread to all the other platys.
as soon as i noticed this i started treatment, stopped feeding for two days, kept up regular water changes as i am fish in cycling and removed the carbon elements from the filter while upping the temperature a little.
all are improving rapidly.
i would let things settle down for a while and then research a suitable replacement for the shark.
good luck! :isay:
