Frayed Fins

Hey everyone, I came back from my two nights away to find all my fish alive and happy, but then just now as I was feeding them I noticed my albino corys have frayed fins i will attach a picture.

Good to hear that your fish have survived for a few days, sorry to see your cory fin looking a bit tattered.
Is it the same for all of your cories?
Is there anything that they could have damaged the fins on?
I don't have much experience with this sort of thing, but if it is fin rot (bacterial infection) it would be worth doing quite a large partial water change first - 25% or so.
I would then wait until one of the more experienced keepers can point you in the right direction, because if it is fin rot there are so many treatments and I don;t know which would be the best for your cories.
If it is injury or fin rot it is all very treatable, so please don't panic.
 

Sorry to read about this, @fish-friends. The best "treatment" you can provide is scrupulously keen water ie ensuring that ammonia and nitrite are/remain at 0 and nitrates under 20 (or no more than 20 above whatever your tap water reading is for nitrates). Do more frequent/larger water changes if necessary to achieve this. Even if the readings are at this, it would do no harm to do 10% water changes daily or every other day, to retain optimum water quality.

If the cories' behaviour and appetite is otherwise normal, I wouldn't medicate yet. If, however, it starts to change or the fraying starts to deteriorate and look worse, then you may want to consider some treatment - Melafix is a mild treatment which oughtn't to have an adverse effect on other fish inhabitants (it's rather like a disinfectant) or eSHa 2000 is a stronger treatment but best only to treat the affected fish and thus in a quarantine tank. However, for now, I wouldn't go down the medication route, as hopefully optimum water quality will resolve the issue.
