Hi folks

Was in my lfs the other day and the subject of clove oil came up. Most of us know that this is used to euthanize fish but a chap in there said that they use something else which is initially used to sedate koi if they need treatment.

Anyone heard of this at all ?

With some koi being very expensive, I wonder if there's an anaesthetic used for them and this shop has access to it for all fish.
Apart from vodka or carbonated water, I've not heard of anything else and you'd have remembered if it was one of those.

I know this post is a couple of months old but I thought I'd say that the product you probably mean is Koi Calm, by NT Labs. It's a over-the-counter clove oil solution used for sedating koi for transport or medical procedures.

So the shop just meant clove oil under a different name?

If that was the product they meant, then yes. I haven't used it myself but I would guess it's emulsified, for convenience.

EDIT: there's also something called Koi Sedate, but this doesn't contain clove oil (it's phenoxyethanol). Again, I've not used it myself.
