Bulging Eye

Hello, checked my fish this morning and noticed that one of my larger Scissor Tails has a bulging eye, just the left one, the right eye is normal. He also rather lethargic. All other fish are fine. I don't think he has been attacked, I have checked my water and all appears normal.

Any ideas what might have caused this?

If it just one eye, it is often caused by damage. Sometimes it could be fighting, other times the fish could have scraped its eye on some decor. Keeping the water clean and fresh is the best cure for this - that means more water changes than usual.

If both eyes are affected, that usually indicates an internal problem. In the UK, treat with an anti-internal bacteria medication.

Yes it is definitely just the one eye affected. I'll do as you suggest and carry out more water changes whilst it (hopefully) clears up. I must say though I am fairly fanatical about my weekly water changes....

If you do a big water change or several small ones anyway that could be enough. I always warn people to keep the water clean as some are not as thorough as you  ;)
