Title: Bettas odd meal choice
Post by: jesnon on October 16, 2014, 11:37:10 PM
Soo this is an odd one but I'm getting a little concerned about Mr Betta (still unnamed, I know I know!)

it seems he is eating the strands of my hornwort that moult and keeps getting these wedged in his mouth.  I don't know why he keeps doing this! He doesn't seem bothered and they fall out eventually but he seems to have them stuck around a day each time.

Should I remove the hornwort just in case?

Bettas are just greedy and will try to eat anything that looks like food. I don't think there's any way you can stop him trying to eat the bits of hornwort. The only thing that would work is removing the source, ie the hornwort plant, which is a pity. Maybe leave it a bit longer and see if he eventually gets the message that he shouldn't eat them.

This sounds like a good plan Sue. I don't particularly want to remove the Hornwort as I like it and it's the only plant I've had that's survived ha but if he keeps eating it I might have to.  Fingers crossed he gets the idea!
