Hi Kv,

If your betta is prone to sitting on top of the heater, it probably would indeed be a good idea to get a heater cover, to prevent any likelihood of him burning his fins.

There's another few threads on here involving a betta with similar symptoms to this - but it may not necessarily be the same as what that betta has. Before we make a definitive diagnosis as to whether this is a heater burn or something else, and then try to help you further, could you tell us a bit more about whether your betta is behaving and eating normally, or whether he's sitting on top of the heater because he's clearly much less active than usual? How long has the top of his fin been that colour - always or just turned that colour today (or are you not sure whether it might always have been that colour)?

Hello
This is exactly what my blue betta has . And I can assure you mine is not from the heater as the heater in my tank is in a separate compartment not accessible by the fish!
Please read my previous recent thread under fin rot or not ? Which include pictures . I'm currently waiting to talk to a vet tommorow as my blue betta has not responded to three lots of treatment .
I've also joined a betta breeder group in the hopes of identifying what he has . People have said it's called marbling where the betta changes colour , but I don't think this is it . I now think it's a bacteria infection that will only be cured with antibiotics .
Please see photo below .
