The x-ray tetras and harlequin rasboras seem to enjoy their twice weekly feed of chopped pea. However, they don't seem to realise that blanched courgette is edible - they circled it a few times as though it were a predator but then proceeded to ignore it. I've read that using garlic might help - http://www.thinkfish.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,1821.msg17356.html#msg17356 . Has anyone actually tried this and for these type of fish?

I've not used garlic myself but a lot of people swear by soaking flakes or pellets in garlic juice to get fish to eat the food. You could try soaking a slice of courgette.

It could just be that they don't realise it is food. Or they are like my husband who also refuses to eat it  ;D

Thanks. Didn't actually get as far as retrieving a garlic clove by the time Alpha Female (who eats about 50% of the food put in the tank) had banished anyone from coming into the half of the tank containing the courgette. She has been eating it all on her own, nose down and body vertical, digging her way into the thick slice. I've put a second slice in now, with an algae wafer wedged in the centre, in the hope the onlookers might go for it but the pecking hierarchy in this tank is very strong and no-one is daring to make a move despite hovering round it and seemingly knowing it's edible.  ::)
