Best Quality Flake Food

There are people who buy very cheap unbranded flake from Ebay/Amazon and there are those who buy expensive makes. The difference is the amount of filler in the flakes, mainly ash, and the expensive ones use whole fish while the cheap ones use fish meal.

This makes quite interesting reading even if the products are mainly American. The only 6* food on the list is Northfin, which doesn't seem to make flakes. New Life Spectrum are 5* but I've gone off those because they contain garlic, and I read somewhere that daily use of garlic food is not good for fish - though I can't find where I read it so I may be mistaken about garlic.  The link doesn't mention NLS flakes, but it is an oscar site so only deals with big cichlids which don't eat flake.

I currently have Omega One freshwater flakes which I have seen recommended on another site. The ingredients are whole fish. And Omega One Veggie Rounds (half a wafer a day for the stiphodons) and New Life Spectrum small fish formula pellets (these are the 0.5 mm pellets) for the cories and peacock gudgeons. I got all these from Ebay.

I got the 2.2 oz/62 g size - the tub is 14.5 cm tall and 7 cm across, and was filled not far short of the lid, to around the top of the word omega on the label. That should give you an idea of which tub size you need 

Don't forget cories are omnivores not vegetarian so they need a sinking pellet with some meat content.
