Title: Artemia Hatchery
Post by: Diz1 on September 19, 2015, 06:25:50 PM
I've just bought an artemia hatchery so that i can produce some of my own live food for the fish.
It's made by Hobby and it doesn't require an air stone . it also doesn't need to sit in the aquarium.

I bought some JBL Artemio mix, which contains
the brine shrimp eggs, a special salt (which contains microalgae – for food for the shrimp – and a buffer system to maintain the optimum PH level).

You combine the egg mixture with water then leave the whole thing and it's supposed to get the shrimp to hatch in 24–36 hours.

My questions are:

1. Has anyone ever used these and, if so, how good are they?
2. Am I supposed to rinse the hatched shrimp in tank water before feeding them to the fish so that some of the salt solution washes off (the instructions don't say)?

I'll write up a wee review once I've used it a couple of times in case anyone else fancies trying it. :)

A wee update on this. It was too good to be true – don't bother buying it, I didn't get a single artemia from it >:(
