Title: BUBBLES - air stones/bars/balls - beneficial?
Post by: Deleted User on November 15, 2017, 11:26:33 AM
Some advice please on air bars and balls etc  in aquariums, do some fish not like them ? but
are they good for oxygenating the water and breaking up surface film?

Air stones etc churn up the water so that they do break up surface film, and the churning pushes lower down water to the surface aiding gas exchange. But a properly positioned filter outflow will do the same job.

Bubbles shouldn't affect fish unless the air stones are in excessive numbers. If the bubbles are restricted to one portion of the tank, any fish that doesn't like them can keep away from them.

Sue,
are you a moderator 24/7 ? ??? in all sections.

I used to be the only moderator, that's why my name is on all the sections.

Going back to the old incarnation of the forum there wasn't a moderator but an advisor, but he stopped posting. Then the site's host gave the owner a week to quit. He saved the information pages but the forum was lost and 9 months later the forum came back on a new host which is why you won't find mention of an advisor in the forum now.
The original site owner was a fish expert, but he sold the site to the current owner who is not a fish expert (he is a web designer). So he asked me as the person with the most posts to become a moderator. To be honest, there isn't much to do, and mainly involves moving posts to the right section. The owner seems to to have eliminated the spam that used to plague the forum, a lot of time was spent deleting that as fast as I found it.

A couple of years ago, the owner did appoint more moderators but the only active ones now are me and Matt. And as I'm retired, I am around most of the time  :)

Sue,
as I'm also retired I'll try not to keep posting mundane questions that you've heard a hundred times before but look on the site for an answer first  O:-)  ;)

@Madtony  I have a natural slate one not quite in the corner it cost about £29 expensive i know but it's natural slate with a few holes drilled in it, my cory's seem to like resting on the base of it for some reason' and 2 of my Rasboras like surfing in the bubbles at the top,I do have it on low setting tho.

The fish that don't like it have the other end of the tank if need be, but i don't think it bother's any of them to be honest.
