Title: Apistogramma cacatoides
Post by: Jonty44 on July 04, 2020, 09:03:49 PM
Hi, I have breeding pair of Apistogramma cacatoides and was wondering if I added another female, would  it cause issues with the pair I have?

If they have formed a pair, the female may object to another female.

How big is the tank? If you wanted to risk it, there would need to be plenty of room for two female territories, and with lots of plants or other decor to break up line of sight. But have a back up plan just in case.

I’d agree with this not being a good move, however you might be able to add a number of females say three more to disperse any aggression should your tank be large enough to accommodate them comfortably

Thank Sue & Matt, as I only have a 20g tank I was happy to add one more female but didn't really want to add a few which probably would be the better option. Given that these two are happy I will leave them be but appreciate your advice  :)

In a 20 gallon (70 litre) tank I would definitely stick with the pair. It would need to be an unusually long, shallow tank to accommodate more than one female territory.
