Just the other day i noticed one of my platys was acting strange (not swimming to well) I then noticed that he looked quite skinny in comparison to the rest .now he's lying on the bottom not swimming at all unless somethin bothers him then he'll swim for a few seconds and then go back to the bottom he looks like hea on his last legs .his belly looks non existent .it's strange because when I got them he was the most adventurous and had lots of character and nothing seemed to faze him. What could this be and is there still a chance to save him ?

Sunken belly could be a sign of infection, either bacterial or parasitic. To be honest, when it gets that far, I don't know what you could try.

If he does die, how to you feel about an autopsy? If you found worms in his intestines, you'd know you had to treat the other fish, and what for.

I had an inclin it could be that , the rest are acting fine nice and plump but ones hiding again and thats what happens to one of my previous platys he was hiding constantly n then ended up dying, I told the lfs and they gave me another and funnily enough the one they gave me is the one that's hiding ,but other than that ther all fine.

How does the treatment work for parasites or bacteria do you put the treatment in the tank ? And would it effect fry ?

Anti internal bacteria - the Interpet anti-internal bac med.
Internal parasites - Sera nematol, or Wormer plus if you can get it.

Some of those might kill shrimps or snails if you have any but the fry should be OK. Internal parasites (worms of some sort) often damage the gut wall allowing bacteria in, so you have to kill the worms then treat for internal infections.

The interpet med is a liquid you dose the tank with. The other fish may not be infrcted but ti is worth treating all the fish.
Wormer plus is a powder that is also added to the whole tank. I don't know about the Sera one, but I imagine that will also be dosed to the whole tank. The danger is that if one fish has worms, the others might well have and until they show symptom you don't know which ones.

The symptoms are emaciated fish and white stringy poo. And red worms protruding from the anus whenever the fish stops swimming and hovers in the water.

A lot of livebearers are already infected when you buy them.
