Hi Folks,

Is anyone a member of an aquarist society or club? I have been a member of the Bracknell Aquarist Society (https://www.facebook.com/Bracknellaquaristsociety) for about a year now. It's a good place to meet fellow fishkeeping enthusiasts. It is attended by men, women and children. We have a topic for each meeting covering such subjects as your favourite fish, water quality, quarantine tanks, plants, setting up a fish house, fish diseases, etc. It is well-attended throughout most of the year.

Bracknell Aquarist Society (BAS) is part of the Federation of British Aquatic Societies (FBAS), which has member societies throughout the UK and beyond. Several BAS members have no less than 50 tanks. There are Livebearer, Betta, Killifish, other freshwater species and marine specialists/breeders.

Hi Folks,

One of the good things about belonging to an Aquarist Society is the number of items that other aquarists give away. Livestock, plants, fish food, equipment are often given away - totally free of charge. Many of the members of my local aquarist society run a 'fish house' with typically 50 - 60 tanks. It's a two-way thing so, in exchange, I've given away GBRs. At this week's meeting, I walked away with three beautiful Ancistrus and, at the previous meeting, I was given two gorgeous Corydoras habrosus.

Sounds good.
Hmmm - one of our members (@Littlefish) might be best to avoid such societies, otherwise she'd be acquiring ever more tanks and stock to her vast collection.  ;)
