Title: Fish breeding - GOOD NEWS ???
Post by: Deleted User on December 10, 2017, 11:43:08 PM
I saw my two largest Angels being a bit aggressive and territorial around a section of the tank, the rear glass is black so I didn't notice at first all the eggs attached to the filter extract pipe !!

Now I have no interest in breeding and have no equipment for it, so should I just let nature take it's course, as it would in the wild ??

Also, should I take it that my weekly water checks, 30% weekly water changes and monthly filter changes are providing good conditions, given the above event?

I would say that's a good sign, yes.

You can certainly leave nature to take it course, though the angels are likely to get quite aggressive towards the other fish. Are they showing any signs of this already?

I'm no expert on angels so will leave it there and await someone with more experience with these fish to respond  :)

It does prove that you have at least one female. Are the eggs fertile or opaque white? It is possible for a female to lay infertile eggs with no male around, but a male/female pair is more likely.

It is common for cichlids to eat their own eggs, at least for the first few spawnings. It is thought that when the eggs are removed from the parents, as with most commercial breeders, when the fish that hatch from these eggs become adult they don't know what to do. It takes them a few go's to learn.

Having fish reproduce unfortunately does not mean good water conditions or even healthy fish. It is nature's way of propagating the species should the parent fish die.

They are a pair and sharing the fanning of the  eggs which are not white, one fans and the other patrols the area.
I really hope they do eat them, I cant be asked to breed anything.
The fish are for my entertainment and my granddaughters.

Nice to know it means nothing about the water  ::)

Glad I've got all you afishianados to explain ah! ah!  :rotfl:  :vcross: :yikes:
