That's a lovely piece of rock  :) Does it feel like rock or petrified wood?

I would have thought the orange streaks would have 'bled' if they were an iron contaminant after being left outdoors.
Try leaving it in a bucket of water for a few days and see what happens. If it doesn't develop rusty streaks, it should be OK.

Iron sulphide is pyrite or fool's gold. I have a sample sitting on the cupboard in the lounge (I collect minerals in the shape of eggs) and it is definitely pale gold rather than orange.

Its rock all right its huge and heavy I've did some research and notice other wood stone with the same markings so hopefully it will be fine.. i googled orange markings in stone and it brought up iron sulphide hehe but thx for pointing that out. So I'll test in water for a bit see how it goes.. and ive got 4 large pieces of this stone it should look fantastic !

Iron oxide is orange - commonly called rust. I would have expected the rock to look rusty if there was iron in it.
