Cleaning tank

Hi All

Hope you had a good Christmas. As some of you may know I am going to have a go at aquascaping. I am going to empty my tank as going to use a soil substrate and wondering what I can use to give the tank a good clean. Is warm water the best way to go?

Thanks

Dave

Warm water and a sponge/plastic scourer that is brand new and is not impregnated with detergent. A brand new - cheap - toothbrush can be handy for awkward corners.

If there are limescale deposits you can use white vinegar to help remove those but make sure to rinse thoroughly afterwards.

Seeing as the ammonia I bought to cycle my tank was sold as a cleaning product, I always wondered on its suitability for cleaning the tank. I clearly wouldn't use as much as to cycle, just enough to dampen a cloth (in a 220l of water).

In a cycled tank with ammonia eating bacteria, how dramatic could the effect be?

I have no idea!

My grandmother used ammonia to clean brass but I don't know if it would disinfect bacteria other than the type that eat ammonia.
