Need recommendations for a 25w fish tank heater, please

It just never ends. :yikes:

SO, I had the Eheim heater out in the kitchen  to give it a test run. I had it in a bucket of water, and it seemed to be doing ok. So I took it out of the water after it was cooled down, turning the switch off at the wall, and had it on the countertop next to the bucket.

My daughter came in to plug in her cell phone to charge. She connected the phone and flipped the switch on at the wall, not noticing that the cell charger wasn't plugged in - the heater was!

I have no idea how long it was like that, but the bottom line is that the heater is now deadski. (Darn it, that was practically brand new!) And I need another heater.

While I could buy the same one again, they are such a pain in the tush to calibrate to the temperature you want that I thought I'd see if there wasn't a user-friendly, reliable 25w digital one that anyone could recommend? I do want one that I can set the temperature, as now and then it's necessary, rather than a pre-set heater.

Recommendations?

Sometimes it's just one thing after another, isn't it.  ::)

As for recommendations on 25w heaters, my short answer is "no".
When I was setting up my mudskipper tanks there was a lot more land than water, so I was looking for a 25w heater with a cover. I tried a pre-set heater, but didn't feel awfully confident that it was suitable, so eventually I gave up and changed to 50w heaters.
Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I find that the 50w heater is fine in the approx. 30L water in each tank.

I've used  the AquaTropic Aqua Therm heater, as they had them at the shop when I went. I had to use a cover from a larger heater to make it safe for the mudskippers, though the heater itself was/still is fine for the amount of water in the tank.
There are probably a lot of good 50w heaters, but I admit that I just bought what I could get my hands on at the shop that day.

There's a good list of heaters listed on Amazon, some have reviews too.

I just replaced the heater in my 26 litre tank. I got the same again - Eheim-Jager 50w.

When I took the non-functional old one out, the heating coil was unwound. I wonder if the thin metal wire had snapped  ???

Ive just realised that the interpet nano stat heater I run is available in a 25w version, but dependant on tank volume (if less than 20l maybe it's ok) I would also recommend a 50w heater. Not that there is anything wrong with the product, in fact it fits the bill perfectly for what I need... discrete it definately is.

Hi Nan,

Have you considered the JBL ProTemp heaters? Here is a link:

https://www.jbl.de/en/products/group/4033/heater-stats-external-internal

I have a ProTemp S 25 in one of my tanks. In my experience, it doesn't control the temperature as accurately as JBL would have you believe. But, otherwise, it ticks all the boxes for me.

Hi. Sorry for the delay in answering. I went with another Eheim. It took me a good week to get it calibrated to 74F, but that's where I wanted it to be and it's finally there and in the little tank doing well.  ;D
