Title: Breaking News Flash!
Post by: Silksheen on February 14, 2015, 03:02:48 PM
Hello everyone.

Just noticed one of my Barbells has had a baby. Totally unexpected. Got 7 now instead of 6. Well pleased. As you can imagine very tiny but very energetic. Any additional advice on new born's please?

Regards Mike

What is the exact species, and how big is the baby?

Very tiny fry usually need things like infusoria or baby brine shrimp. But very small fry are usually very hard to see so yours may be old and big enough to eat finely crushed adult food.

They are all gold colour some white underside with a black line centre down the length. The baby one is just under half an inch long.

At half a inch it is definitely big enough to eat crushed up adult food. It's the 1mm long fry that need very tiny food.

Are they golden barbs (http://www.thinkfish.co.uk/fish/golden-barb.html)?

That's great thanks Sue.

These have more of a straight thick black line along the fuselage.

Hmmm, don't know what they are then. Golden barbs are the only gold ones I know of!
