Spots on Electric Blue Ram (not white spot)

My male electric Blue Ram has a few spots on its side. One is protruding from under the scales the others appear to by under the surface. They have been present for the last couple of weeks.

I know it's not White spot because it looks nothing like it and it's internal rather the external.

I have looked through a book I have on tropical fish diseases and online and can't find anything.

Can you check out the photo and advise what you think it might be and how I can treat it if at all?

I'm not terribly good with diseases but those spots look rather odd! Are they actually pinkish or is that just the way they've come out in the picture?

One thing that does concern me is you say one is protruding from under a scale simply because I've had that on a betta, but the spot was greyish white. Can I ask how long you've had the ram because if it is a while it is unlikely to be the same thing.

I 've had the Rams, a male & female pair approx. 3 1/2 months now. The one with the spots is the male.

The spots are kind of orangey brown, the same sort of colour that the rest of the non blue parts of the body are.

In that case it is unlikely to be lymphocystis (which is what my betta had).

I'm afraid this has me stumped  ???

I'm sorry I can't be more help.

I don't want to be leading you up the wrong track when there could be numerous explanations. However, I know that male goldfish get breeding tubercles (usually around the gills and pectoral fins, though) when they're ready to spawn. I've just done a very quick 'google' search to see whether other fish also get these and it seems it is possible. I'm certainly not saying that this is what is the case here, but just thought I'd throw it into the mix as a possibility among other suggestions that people might have.
