Will tropical fish eat peas?

Yes, tropical fish learn extremely quickly that peas are edible and often it causes great excitement and becomes their favoured food.

It is best to prepare the peas by:
* removing the shell, either through blanching them with some boiling water or else waiting for them to defrost and slipping the shell off;
* chopping each half into as many tiny morsels as possible with a sharp knife, possibly squashing them too
* putting them in at the filter outflow, so that they disperse around the tank and enable everyone to get some pieces

Generally, tropical fish tend to recognise peas as edible more than they recognise other vegetables as food. Peas are good for their digestive systems and a varied diet with pea fed at least once a week is sensible. If fish are showing signs of constipation such as poo hanging from their vents or even problems with swimbladder malfunction / buoyancy problems, then increasing the frequency of feeding pea can help address these issues.

Fish which don't ordinarily feed from the substrate will often retrieve leftover morsels of pea from there and from decor, possibly because its bright colour makes it more visible.
